This 2-3 hour course is designed specifically to assist nurses in General Practice with the interpretation of ECGs.

The course commences with a discussion of the indications for ECGs in the GP setting and covers actual lead placement and performance as well as the basic physiology of ECG interpretation.

Next a 6-step approach to interpreting an ECG will be discussed covering the rate, rhythm, p-wave, QRS (how and type) and ST segments.

Then we discuss red flags, obvious morphology or rhythm abnormalities and ST segment abnormalities.

The course will conclude with a hands-on interpretation session interpreting actual cases and ECGs and a discussion aroubnd emergency management of ECG abnormalities with a focus on urgency of assessment.
